Brazil Nuts

Ceres Organics

  • Brazil nuts taste rich and creamy, and their meat is similar in texture to coconut. To fully appreciate them, it's important to know where they come from. The brazil nut tree is gigantic, reaching a height of 30-45 metres or more, and grows very slowly - it takes 10-30 years before producing nuts. However, it can also live a long life of up to 800 years. The tree requires a specific species of bee to pollinate its flowers which produce the fruit, and a small ground mammal called the agouti to break open the pods and spread the seeds. For these reasons, the Amazon is the only place brazil nuts have been grown successfully and why they are so precious. Older brazil nut trees can produce around 300 or more fruit annually. When the fruit is ripe, it falls from the tree with a loud crashing sound, and inside each fruit pod are 12 to 25 delectable brazil nuts.
  • Our raw brazil nuts are delicious to snack on, add to breakfast cereals, use in baking or sprinkle over your favourite salad or savoury dish.

They are so versatile; you can use them whole, chopped, ground or shaved. You can also use them to make a delicious plant-based nut milk, or whiz them up in a blender to make nut flour/meal for baking. They are the perfect base for all our raw desserts too!
